BIO

Marta Masferrer is a Cuban-American writer, filmmaker, and producer whose work explores family, identity, and the private consequences of public events. Her storytelling examines loyalty, power, and the complicated ways we define ourselves through the people we love.

Her short films have screened internationally at SXSW, Cinequest, and the Cannes Short Film Corner. Her Columbia University graduate thesis film, Asternauts, screened at over forty international festivals and received thirteen awards, including Best Screenplay (Porto7), Best Cinematography (HollyShorts), and the Audience Award (Cortópolis Madrid). She has been selected for prestigious development programs including Lucrecia Martel’s “Sounds of Summer” Film Accelerator and the Berlinale Talent Campus, and was a finalist for the NBC Alternative Directing Program.

Marta is a Hedgebrook Writers-in-Residence fellow and has received fellowships from AIVF, NALIP, and IFP New York’s Project Involve.

In 2024, she created and hosted The Fallout Chronicles, a podcast examining the far-reaching impact of incarceration on families and communities, featuring artists, journalists, and advocates whose lives have been shaped by the prison system. The project reflects her longstanding engagement with questions of family, identity, and the private consequences of public events.

Alongside her independent work, Marta has collaborated with production companies, nonprofits, and global brands to create narrative campaigns and multi-platform storytelling. She has supported work for brands including Microsoft, T-Mobile, Brooks, Samsung, and Greystar, bringing cinematic craft to commercial and branded content.

She holds an MFA in Film Directing from Columbia University (Dean’s Fellowship recipient) and a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University.
